Four easy ways to inject colour into your home

A change of season is the perfect time to refresh your living space by injecting pops of colour and personality. With the guidance of some interior experts, we’ve compiled a range of simple ways to overhaul your aesthetic and breathe new life into even the most tired corners of your home.

Make a big impact by starting small

Cushions are a great place to start when wanting to change the look and feel of a space and give a room a refresh. According to interiors expert Aimee Tarulli there are no rules when it comes to choosing cushions. She says, “look for a similar colour palette and then mix and match shapes and sizes. Have a lot of fun with it and try pattern and colour you may not have used before”.

Embrace affordable ways to bring florals into the home

Flowers are an easy way to brighten up a dreary corner in your home. Fresh blooms needn’t be expensive – pick up some of your favourite florals and greenery from Coles and get creative with a DIY arrangement. If you’d prefer something with a bit more longevity, opt for a dried floral arrangement (which can last for up to six months) or ready-made faux stems and botanicals. Bold vases and plant pots can also be used to make a statement and look striking when grouped in various colours and textures.

Be thoughtful with colour

This spring could be the perfect time to pull out a paintbrush and add a lick of paint to rooms in your house that need a little cheering up. According to leading paint experts, Dulux, selecting decadent wall colours such as rich reds, subtle violets and earthy browns is a great way to bring colour into the home, while also adding an element of sophistication. This type of warm, vivid sunset palette creates a cosy, inviting space to escape. If you don’t want to commit to a feature wall, a framed print is an easy way to change up the mood of a room.

Merge trends and add layers

The Block’s resident judge Neale Whitaker believes it’s important to be bold and unafraid of merging interior trends. He says, “my favourite interiors are always the ones that blend different styles, different tones, different periods, different colours.” Furthermore, Whitaker suggests layering elements that you love, such as art, personal photographs, mementos and books to inject personality. Shop frames and accessories from Kmart.
